I was born on August 29, 1948. I graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 1970 and from the University of Santa Clara School of Law (Magna Cum Laude) in 1973. I have practiced Law in Monterey County ever since.

I am a partner in Spiering, Swartz & Kennedy, which was formed in 1975 and has remained together at the same location continuously thereafter.

I have participated on numerous Boards of Non-Profit Civic Organizations and have been involved in numerous charitable endeavors. I was on the State of California Committee on Professional Responsibility and Conduct (previously known as the Ethics Committee) for five years and was its Vice-Chairman and Chairman. I was also on the State Bar Courts Committee and presided over attorney discipline proceedings in the early 1980's.

I am an active marathoner and have competed in the Boston, New York, San Francisco and Big Sur Marathons, and numerous other marathons throughout the United States. My wife, Carol, is an ex-TWA flight attendant, and we have two sons, Adam and Alex, ages 15 and 13. My health is excellent.

My professional experience includes ten jury trials and hundreds of courts trials and arbitrations. I have been hired by numerous insurance companies, banks, and other business entities to defend or prosecute claims of all kinds, including employment, contract, and debt collection. I have handled numerous coverage disputes for both Plaintiffs and Defendants. I have also prosecuted personal injury plaintiff claims and defamation claims, and I have extensive experience in all aspects of real estate and property litigation. I have also handled numerous appeals and there are various published Court of Appeal decisions pertaining to those cases. I have testified as an expert in legal malpractice cases (for the defense) and as an expert on ethics.

Finally, I have acted as both a Mediator and Arbitrator in a variety of real estate and negligence claims.
